Days

There’s no list of amenities. There’s the heat, and where to be during it.

A long dark still pool running toward a thin line of sea, through dry scrub at first light.
The pool, about 07:30.

One day, by the hour

Early June

07:00

First swim.

42 m along the axis, with the sun over the sea.

One small swimmer leaving a thin wake across dark water.

09:00

Walk to the cove.

Twelve minutes on foot, by a public path. It isn’t ours, and there’s no private beach.

A narrow cove in pale cliffs with clear water over sand, one cliff wall lit by low sun.
A person seen from behind, reading on the stone bench in a deep wall opening.

14:00

The long shade.

Stone, books, a long lunch. This is what the place is for.

A vaulted lounge with an old stone mill, dark oak press and a small fire.

18:00

The Tafona, or your terrace.

After three o’clock, every terrace on the Long Wall is in shade.

19:00

The lane.

Long shadows ahead of you, all the way to the gate.

An older couple seen from behind, walking a pale lane between dry-stone walls in low evening light, toward a far gate.

22:30

The tower’s dark sky.

There’s nothing to photograph, so we didn’t.

One year

Old almond trees in pale blossom on red earth between dry-stone terrace walls, with a distant square tower.

A flat dry plateau of low scrub and pines under high cloud, with a thin dark line of sea.
The plateau, under thin cloud.
A hand-laid dry-stone wall of angular limestone with lichen and a sprig of rosemary.
A walk with a dry-stone waller.

Also: a walk with a dry-stone waller, sea swimming from the public cove, and stargazing. All of it is fictional, and none of it can be booked.
